Dear Friend,
If you are
newly unemployed, DO NOT PANIC! You need to focus on
finding yourself a new career or position in your existing
field of expertise. This process can take some time, but
your success depends on your ability to adapt and learn what
it will take to get your next job. Here
is the link to the State of Texas website to direct you through
claiming your unemployment.
At
one time or another, we have all been "between jobs". Almost
18 years ago, I found myself unemployed from October to March
of the following year. I have found the best way
to deal with this situation is a strong, head first plunge
into knowledge and instruction to make myself more marketable
and aware of the current trends of the job market.
Regardless
of the type of position you are looking for, you must have
a professional appearance, an excellent resume and up-to-date
interviewing skills. Without these "arrows" in your
quiver, you are going to "battle" ill prepared.
There are
several articles on this site to
assist you in these areas. My personal recommendation is to read
everything you can, prepare your resume, show it to your friends
and family, and ask for their feedback. Then, if you have the
resources, hire a career coach, even if it is just to review your
resume and presentation.
I
also recommend the book promoted to the left of this
letter. Written
by Rick Gillis, it is a straight forward, idea filled manual
for marketing yourself into today's technology age. It
is worth every penny.
Additionally,
network within your area of influence and let everyone know you
are looking for a job. Email has become a fantastic tool to allow
you to contact just about anyone with your resume attached. Be
sure to make a good cover letter as well.
Remember to
post your resume on this site and use the Job Search agents to
notify you by email when new jobs are posted on our site that
match your settings.
Also, BEWARE:
DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS OR CHECKING/BANKING
INFORMATION TO ANYONE! THERE ARE INDIVIDUALS
RUNNING SCAMS IN THE JOB POSTING NETWORKS ADVERTISING "WORK
AT HOME - ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE" POSITIONS. THIS
SHOULD BE A RED LIGHT TO YOU! THEY WANT YOU TO DEPOSIT
CHECKS FROM OUT OF THE COUNTRY AND THEN MAIL OFF A PERSONAL
CHECK TO SOMEONE HERE IN THE STATES. DO NOT FALL INTO
THIS SCAM. THEIR GOAL IS TO GET YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION AND
THEN REMOVE ALL YOUR MONEY!
I wish you
the best and hope you will find a meaningful career in the very
near future!
Sincerely,
Steven Carr
